This year, we'll be brining back our competition introduction and team run-outs, giving every team teh opportunity to experience that big-event atmosphere as they take to the court!

Expect music, lights, introductions, big screens and plenty of noise, as the teams make their way onto the court - helping make the Championships feel like the makor event it is.

Team run-outs are back!

Indoor Hockey UK is delighted to announce that the 2026 Indoor Hockey UK Championships will return to the David Ross Sports Village in Nottingham from 27-30 December 2026!

We're already looking ahead to this year's event which promises to be bigger and louder than ever - as there are some exciting changes planned.

Three courts. Closer to the action

For 2026, we're mkaing a change to the way the venue is laid out.

Rather than operating four courts as in previous years, the Championships will run across three courts, with bleacher seating for spectators installed across the fourth court.

This will bring over 1,000 spectators much closer to the action, creating a more exciting atmosphere around the courts, while providing a dedicated area for supporters to watch the competition.

With three courts still running throughout the event, there will be no shortage of hockey - but the new layout should make the Championships feel more like a major spectator event!

Team entries open 1 September

Team entries for the 2026 Championships will open at 7pm on Tuesday 1 September 2026 . The cost of entry will be £270 per team. This is a slight increase on last year, but takes into account the reduction in the total number of teams we can accommodate and the cost of inflation.

With places expected to be in high demand, teams are encouraged to get their entries in as soon as registration opens.

Spectator Tickets

As previously announced , there will be a charge for spectators attending the Championships. Spectator entry will cost £4 per person, per day.

Every player will receive one free spectator ticket, allowing them to bring a supporter with them at no additional cost.

The spectator charge will help us continue to provide a safe, professionally managed event while investing in the experience for players, teams and supporters.

Team entries open 1 September

From 27–30 December, Nottingham will once again become the home of Indoor Hockey UK, bringing together teams from across the country for four days of competition, atmosphere and some of the best indoor hockey in the UK.

With the return of team run-outs, a new spectator seating layout and plenty of hockey across three courts, the 2026 Indoor Hockey UK Championships are set to be bigger, louder and closer to the action than ever.

Four Days. Ten Competitions

The Championships will once again feature 12 competitions of different ages and gender. They are scheduled to take place as per below:

Under 14 Girls (20 Teams max) - Warm up: from 12:00. Games Start: at 13:00. Presentations at: 20:00.

Indoor Hockey UK can confirm that spectator tickets for larger events will now be subject to a charge, replacing the previous system where tickets were available free of charge.

While spectator tickets have been required for several years to help manage venue capacity and event attendance, the increasing costs and responsibilities associated with hosting major events mean that a paid ticketing model is now necessary to ensure events remain safe, sustainable and enjoyable for all attendees.

One of the most significant changes affecting event organisers across the UK is the introduction of new requirements under Martyn's Law, alongside wider expectations around event safety and security. Event organisers are increasingly required to assess risks, implement appropriate security measures and ensure robust plans are in place to protect participants, volunteers and spectators.

As a result, Indoor Hockey UK must invest in enhanced event safety measures, including professional security provision, stewarding, spectator management and additional operational support. These requirements create costs that can no longer be absorbed solely through competition entry fees and volunteer support.

During the review process, Indoor Hockey UK considered a number of options to fund these additional requirements, including increasing competition entry fees for participating teams. However, this approach would require clubs to bear the cost of security and stewarding based on projected attendance figures, regardless of the actual number of spectators who attend. It would also mean that we would have to cap the number of attendees at the estimated number.

By introducing a spectator charge, event costs can be aligned more closely with actual attendance levels. Security and stewarding requirements are directly linked to the number of spectators present. If attendance is lower than anticipated, fewer resources may be required. Equally, if attendance exceeds expectations, additional measures can be put in place to ensure the event remains safe and compliant.

This approach provides greater flexibility and ensures that costs are shared more fairly between those attending the event and those competing in it.

Our events depend heavily on volunteers who generously give their time to support the sport. Unlike many major event organisers, nobody at Indoor Hockey UK is paid to organise or deliver these competitions. From competition management and event operations through to stewarding and spectator support, our events rely entirely on volunteers working for the benefit of the hockey community.

However, a number of volunteers have expressed concerns about undertaking stewarding and spectator management roles following their experiences at recent events. While the overwhelming majority of spectators attend to support the sport positively, there have been instances where volunteers, officials and event staff have been subjected to behaviour that falls below the standards expected within the hockey family.

This has made it increasingly difficult to recruit and retain the volunteers needed to operate events safely and effectively.

The introduction of a paid ticketing system will help Indoor Hockey UK provide the resources required to meet its event safety obligations, support volunteers, improve spectator management and continue delivering high-quality championship events.

A non-profit charge

Commenting on the change, William Davey, Indoor Hockey UK's Operations Director, said:

"Spectator tickets have long been part of our events, but until now we have been able to offer them free of charge. As the requirements around event safety and security continue to evolve, we have had to review how these additional costs are funded.

"We considered increasing team entry fees, but charging spectators directly is a more flexible and equitable solution. It allows us to scale security and stewarding provision according to actual attendance while helping to ensure the long-term sustainability of our events.

"Most importantly, our events are delivered entirely by volunteers. These individuals give up their time because they care about the sport and want to create a great experience for players, coaches and supporters. It is only right that we provide them with the support, resources and environment they need to do that safely and confidently."

For the 2026 Championships taking place in December, spectator tickets will be priced at £4 per person, per day. Indoor Hockey UK has worked hard to keep the cost as low as possible while ensuring that the additional requirements around safety, security and event management can be met.

Indoor Hockey UK also remains committed to operating as a not-for-profit organisation. Any surplus generated through its events is reinvested directly into the sport, helping to improve facilities, equipment and the long-term sustainability of indoor hockey.

Recent investments have included the purchase of new rebound boards, helping secure Indoor Hockey UK's ability to host national events for at least the next decade and ensuring that future generations of players can continue to enjoy the sport at the highest level.

By introducing a modest spectator charge, which is roughly the cost of a cup of coffee, Indoor Hockey UK can continue to deliver safe, high-quality national championships while supporting the volunteers, facilities and infrastructure that make the sport possible.

Bringing Universities Together

Indoor Hockey UK is delighted to announce that entries are now open for the Indoor Hockey UK University Championships 2027, bringing together university teams from across the UK for a day of exciting indoor hockey.

Following the success of the inaugural championships in 2025, the 2027 event marks an exciting milestone as the first edition to be delivered by Indoor Hockey UK, building on the foundations of a fantastic competition and continuing its development as the UK's premier university indoor hockey event.

The championships will take place on Friday 8 January 2027 at the David Ross Sports Village, University of Nottingham - one of the UK's leading indoor hockey venues.

Men's and Women's Competitions

Entries will be opening soon for both men's and women's competitions, with places available on a first-come, first-served basis. As capacity is limited, universities are encouraged to secure their place as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

A New Chapter for Indoor Hockey

Indoor Hockey UK is excited to announce the launch of the South East Grand Slam, the newest addition to our growing calendar of Grand Slam events.

Taking place on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 October 2026 at Polo Farm Sports Centre, Canterbury, the South East Grand Slam marks an exciting milestone as the third Grand Slam to join the Indoor Hockey UK event programme, alongside our established Derby and London Grand Slam competitions.

Designed to bring high-quality indoor hockey closer to clubs across the South East and beyond, the event will provide an exciting weekend of fast-paced competition, fantastic facilities and the welcoming atmosphere that Indoor Hockey UK events have become known for.

We're delighted to be bringing the event to Polo Farm Sports Centre in Canterbury, one of the South East's premier hockey venues.

With excellent playing facilities and ample parking Polo Farm provides the perfect setting for the newest addition to the Grand Slam calendar.

The entry fee will be £250 per team - aligning with the rest of our Grand Slam events. Entry for the event opens on Friday 7 August at 7pm via the booking system on our website . There will be a virtual waiting room and queuing system in operation to ensure the system doesn't become overloaded.

Spectator entry for the event will be FREE but a ticket will be required - which will be available from Friday 21 August via the ticketing pages on the Indoor Hockey UK website .

Across the weekend, Derby Arena welcomed competitions from Under 10 through to adult hockey, with three competition pitches in operation throughout the event.

Hundreds of matches were played across the three days, with every game contributing to an exciting festival atmosphere that celebrated participation, development and high-performance indoor hockey. The event schedule began with the Under 10 competitions on Saturday morning and continued almost non-stop throughout the Bank Holiday weekend.

Whether it was a player's first experience of indoor hockey or a team competing for a Grand Slam title, every match was played with passion, determination and respect.

The 2026 Derby Grand Slam was another event of remarkable scale, featuring:

A Festival of Indoor Hockey

The 2026 Indoor Hockey UK Derby Grand Slam once again brought together the very best of indoor hockey for an unforgettable May Bank Holiday weekend, with Derby Arena hosting three days of fast-paced action, fantastic competition and an outstanding celebration of the sport.

From the first warm-up sessions on Saturday morning to the final medal presentations on Monday evening, the Arena was alive with energy as players, coaches, officials, volunteers and supporters came together from across the United Kingdom to enjoy one of the biggest events on the indoor hockey calendar.

The Grand Slam continues to grow year after year, and the 2026 edition demonstrated exactly why it has become a highlight of the indoor season.

Behind Every Match

Events of this size simply wouldn't happen without an extraordinary team working behind the scenes.

Our sincere thanks go to every volunteer, umpire, technical official, medical volunteer, photographer, event volunteer and member of the Indoor Hockey UK workforce who gave up their Bank Holiday weekend to help deliver another outstanding event.

Months of planning culminated in three days of seamless competition, with every individual playing their part in creating an event that players and clubs can be proud to be part of.

Indoor Hockey UK is delighted to announce that three sets of former championship rebound boards have found new homes at clubs across the UK, where they will continue to support the growth of indoor hockey for years to come.

Following our recent sale of surplus rebound boards, we were thrilled by the unprecedented level of interest from clubs, schools and organisations looking to expand their indoor hockey provision. The response demonstrated the growing enthusiasm for indoor hockey and the value of making quality equipment more accessible.

Rather than seeing these boards come to the end of their journey, we're incredibly pleased that they will continue to play an important role in the sport.

Indoor Hockey UK regularly invests in equipment to ensure our national events are delivered to the highest possible standard. As equipment is refreshed, it's important to us that older assets continue to benefit the wider hockey community wherever possible.

By finding new homes with clubs, these boards will remain in use for many years, helping hundreds of players experience indoor hockey at a local level.
